CoolSculpting® is an advanced non-surgical fat reduction treatment that uses Cryolipolysis® to eliminate stubborn fatty deposits all around the body. With this technology, Dr. David Zweiback can reshape your body at his Philadelphia, PA, practice without surgery, anesthesia, or extensive downtime after your appointment. As an internist, Dr. Zweiback pays particular attention to how this aesthetic treatment impacts your overall health, as well.
What Is CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting is an FDA-approved treatment that reduces fat tissue with the application of cold temperatures. Unlike other fat reduction procedures, it is non-invasive, requiring no surgery, anesthesia, or recovery time. In fact, many patients return to work immediately after treatment.
How It Works
Fat cells freeze at a much lower temperature than other tissues. With Cryolipolysis® technology, a CoolSculpting treatment can precisely target stubborn fat deposits under the skin without affecting surrounding tissues. After the treated fat cells crystallize and die, your body naturally processes the dead fat cells and eliminates them from your body over the next one to three months. Often, patients are able to achieve their cosmetic goals after a single CoolSculpting treatment with Dr. Zweiback.
Am I a Candidate for CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting is usually recommended to patients who are close to their target weight, but who have not had success slimming down pockets of fat with exercise or dieting. Patients can target almost any part of the body, including:
- Flanks or sides
- Inner or outer things
- Upper arms
- Under the chin
However, CoolSculpting is not a weight loss procedure. Instead, the treatment eliminates fat cells to remove annoying bulges and provide a slimmer figure.
At Your Appointment
During your first visit, you will meet with Dr. Zweiback to discuss your cosmetic goals and needs. If CoolSculpting seems to be appropriate to those goals, he can design a personalized treatment plan for you.
Dr. Zweiback's understanding of internal medicine as well as cosmetic dermatology provides a unique perspective and allows him to personalize treatments to meet your needs.
On the day of your treatment, we will apply a gel pad and applicator to the desired areas on your body before beginning the procedure. In addition to the cold, patients may also notice sensations such as pulling, mild pinching, tugging, tingling, stinging, aching, or cramping at the treatment site. The more intense cold sensations usually fade within five to ten minutes, at which point you can read, check email, or even nap. A typical procedure takes between 35 and 60 minutes in total. Once your treatment is complete, you can return to your normal activities.
Side Effects and Results
CoolSculpting involves no recovery or downtime. However, treatment can cause some mild, temporary side effects around the treatment sites, such as:
- Tingling or stinging
- Skin sensitivity
All side effects, including itching, aching, and cramping, should subside within a few days.
You may begin to see changes to your body in as little as three weeks. However, your body will flush out fat cells for up to six months after treatment. Most patients see their most dramatic results about two months after the procedure.
